What Do Home Inspectors Look For?

As a home inspection company serving the DMV area, we are often asked what exactly we look for during a home inspection. While every home is different, there are some general things that we always check for. Here is a list of what we typically look for during a home inspection:

1. The condition of the roof We check for missing or damaged shingles, leaks, and any other potential problems.

2. The condition of the gutters and downspouts We make sure that the gutters are clean and free of debris, and that the downspouts are draining properly.

3. The condition of the exterior of the home We check for cracks, holes, or other damage to the siding, and we also check the condition of the windows and doors.

4. The condition of the interior of the home We check for any signs of water damage, mold, or other problems. We also check the condition of the floors, walls, and ceilings.

5. The condition of the HVAC system We check the furnace, air conditioner, and any other heating or cooling system in the home.

6. The condition of the electrical system We check for any signs of damage or wear, and we also test the outlets to make sure they are working properly.

7. The condition of the plumbing system We check for any leaks or damage, and we also test the drains to make sure they are working properly.

8. The condition of the home’s foundation We check for cracks or other damage to the foundation. This is just a general list of what we look for during a home inspection.
